Daniel is an MPhil/PhD Candidate at the European Institute.

His research approaches Europe as a phenomenological world rather than a spatial (i.e., political, geographic) object. He is particularly interested in the historical transformations of this European worldhood and the unique moment of transition it might find itself in today. His research explores the works of Martin Heidegger and the wider phenomenological tradition (specifically Edmund Husserl, Hannah Arendt, and Jan Patoçka) into the concept of worldhood as well as the existential philosophy of history of Oswald Spengler and Friedrich Nietzsche and their ideas on epochal history, nihilism, and cultural renewal. His project pursues a philosophical rather than empirical approach to Europe’s contemporary political questions in order to better understand Europe’s current cultural confusion, political instability, and lack of unifying meaning.

Daniel holds an MSc in Philosophy and Public Policy from the LSE and a BA in Political Science (specialization in International Relations) from Columbia University. He has previously worked in various editorial positions and was a graduate intern at the United Nations in NYC. Daniel’s doctoral research is funded by an LSE Studentship.
