Dr Kiran Grewal is a human rights lawyer and scholar with 20 years’ experience working in the field. She is the author of two academic monographs: The Socio-Political Practice of Human Rights (Routledge 2016) and Gang Rape and the Reinforcement of Dominant Order: Discourses of Race, Gender and Nation (Routledge 2017). Having worked in a range of post-conflict societies, Kiran’s research has been focused in recent years in Sri Lanka where she has undertaken a range of action research projects exploring post-war rights, justice and democratisation struggles. This research is the topic of her current book projects, one entitled The Everyday Life of Human Rights and the other, Revisiting the Political: Developing Decolonial Political Theory from the Periphery. Kiran also runs an annual Decolonial Summer School in Sri Lanka designed to foster space for critical education and debate among scholars, artists and activists. She was previously a Professor of Human Rights at Goldsmiths, University of London and is currently working in Sri Lanka with the Law and Society Trust.
