Juan joined the department in 2018. His background is in applied regional and urban economics. He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at Universidad Católica del Norte (Chile). Before arriving at the LSE, Juan worked as a research associate for the Latin American Center for Rural Development and the Institute of Regional Applied Economics (Chile). Juan participated as a researcher in several projects that involves the Chilean National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (Fondecyt), the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the National Institute for Agricultural Development (Chile), and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). His doctoral research is focused on the local economic impacts of extractive industries.
