John W.H. Denton AO announced as the new chair of the UN Business and Human Security Initiative Advisory Board

The UN Business and Human Security Initiative announces John W.H. Denton as the new chair of its Advisory Board.

The team at LSE IDEAS UN Business and Human Security Initiative are delighted that John W.H. Denton AO will be the new chair of the Advisory Board offering strategic direction and feedback on the programme and its outputs.

John W.H. Denton AO is the Secretary General of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). He is a global business leader and international advisor on policy and a legal expert on international trade and investment. In 2022, John was appointed by United Nations Secretary General to represent the global private sector on the newly formed Steering Committee of the UN Global Crisis Response Group on Food, Energy and Finance. He is also a Board member of the UN Global Compact and additionally serves on the Boards of the UN Development Programme's Impact Investing Steering Group. Mr Denton replaces Dame Elizabeth Corley who is stepping down after three years as Chair.

About the appointment LSE IDEAS Director Professor Chris Alden said, ‘’John’s experience of and commitment to involving the private sector in addressing global challenges such as conflict, the Sustainable Development Goals, climate change and the digital revolution, will be enormously valuable to research and advocacy in this area.”

The UN Human and Business Security initiative aims to contribute to the changing public discourse on private sector engagement in sustainable development, peacebuilding and economic, social and governance (ESG) goals through advocating and explicating a human security approach. Drawing on academic networks and working closely with UN agencies, the programme provides evidence, knowledge exchange and a forum to engage with companies, investors, governments and the UN system to bring about practice change based on a human security approach and meet the growing need for multi-stakeholder responses to complex challenges. The programme’s Advisory Board comprises leading figures in business, finance and diplomacy.
