About me

William A. Callahan is Professor of International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science. 

Sensible Politics: Visualizing International Relations (OUP, 2020) is the first book-length analysis of visuality, multisensory politics, and IR, and it won the Best Book Award 2022 from the International Political Sociology section of the International Studies Association. Sensible Politics was also shortlisted for the Susan Strange Best Book Award 2021 of the British International Studies Association. Read the 2500-word summary.

Callahan's essay “The Politics of Walls: Barriers, Flows and the Sublime” won the Review of International Studies best article (2018).

Sensible Politics: Visualizing International Relations, the first book-length analysis of visuality, multisensory politics, and IR, was published by Oxford University Press in February 2020. Go to the 2500-word summary.

In 2019-20, Callahan was nominated for an “Innovation in Teaching” award for his “Visual International Politics” course (IR318), which integrates visual analysis and creative filmmaking.

Professor Callahan is not taking on new PhD students for entry in 2024/25.
