Jack Basu-Mellish is the Associate Editor of Millennium: Journal of International Studies, Vol 52. He has previously served as an Editor and Deputy Editor of volumes 51 and 50 respectively. He has also been a project assistant at LSE IDEAS, helping coordinate the Cold War Project where he was the host of the LSE Cold War Podcast.
Jack joined LSE Department of International Relations having completed an MPhil in International Relations at the University of Cambridge, supervised by Professor James Mayall.
His research utilises an English School approach to understanding the development of international norms and practices. He is particularly interested in the contribution of the post-colonial world in the development of international society, and its contribution to international order making. His research focusses on the development of the post-colonial world as an international coalition following their emergence as sovereign states during the twentieth century, and the international institutions they built, such as the Non-Aligned Movement. He has also conducted prior research in the field of ethics and just war theory.

An English School Analysis of Colonialism and Decolonisation in Shaping the Contemporary International Order
The work develops the case that colonialism was a primary institution of international society prior to 1945, and uses its decline and the rise of international organisations such as the Non-Aligned Movement, to provide new insights into how the norms and primary institutions of the international system were changed by the emergence of the post-colonial states.
This research seeks to improve the understanding of the key role the post-colonial world played in shaping our contemporary international order.
