Visiting Fellows
The Centre’s Visiting Fellowship programme enables researchers in the early stages of their career to spend a research period in London at the LSE Latin America and Caribbean Centre. The programme is intended for researchers outside the LSE, from Latin America and the Caribbean institutions, or researchers who work on topics relevant to our areas of interest. It allows these researchers to actively be involved in the international and multidisciplinary environment of our Centre, to contribute to the LSE LACC intellectual life and to experience the LSE.
Applicants are expected to present a strong case on how their work complements our research environment and provide the clear research plan they intend to pursue during their fellowship.
Visiting Fellows are expected to play an active part in the intellectual life of the LSE LACC, and prospective applicants should familiarise themselves with our research. Applications will be considered by the Centre Director in the first instance to be nominated to the School.
Practical arrangements
Duration: Fellowships will initially run for one year with the possibility of one extension for up to three years. Fellows may visit the LSE LACC at any time during the year, subject to agreement between each individual fellow and the Centre Director or Manager.
Location: During their appointment with LSE LACC, fellows can initiate and conclude their research plans from their country; however, they are encouraged to spend time at the Centre in London (ideally at least three months), subject to agreement with the Centre Director or Manager.
Status: The title of Visiting Fellow is given to individuals from outside the School. Visiting Fellows have access to the facilities of the LSE as a whole, including the Library and will be provided with an LSE login and email address. Fellows will have access to hot-desk space subject to availability.
Funding: The Centre aims to put in place a funded programme to enable those with a genuine and active commitment to the region from around the world to spend time at LSE and engage with the Centre’s initiatives. However, we can only consider applications from those who already have (or expect to have) adequate financial support.
Accommodation and Visas: the School is not able to make any arrangements for living accommodation or visa applications. However, the accommodation for students website provides valuable guidance on finding private rented housing.
Bench fees: Visitors are required to pay bench fees of £10,000 per academic year (pro-rata for shorter periods). Adjustments to this are allowed only on a needs basis.
Applications are considered for approval at intervals throughout the academic year. Candidates should submit an application form summarising their planned research programme during the fellowship and the contribution they expect to make to the LSE LACC during their visit. Candidates are also encouraged to suggest relevant LSE academics whose work is of interest and relates to their work.

The application form asks for information about your planned research programme and how you expect the Centre to benefit from the collaboration.
Academic/employment reference
You are asked to arrange for a reference in support of your application. The reference may be sent directly to the Centre Manager.
Timetable for considering applications
The two-stage assessment process takes approximately eight weeks. Applicants should keep this in mind when considering the start date for their proposed fellowship.
Senior Visiting Fellows
Scholars of Lecturer (post-Major Review equivalent), Senior Lecturer, or Reader levels, and professionals at a broadly comparable level in their profession can apply for a Senior Visiting Fellowship. The status is intended to apply to scholars who have already published work of distinction, as well as recognising the contribution to research from those in government service, in professional practice, in the private sector, or other appropriate fields.
Professors in Practice
The Centre welcomes applications from people with experience in business, international organisations and civil society. Professors in Practice are expected to play an active role in the initiatives of the Centre and the LSE.
