Gareth Jones, Director of the LSE Latin America and Caribbean Centre (LACC), recently discussed governance and political economy at a recent conference on Innovations in Global Financial Governance and the Role of Emerging Economies, held in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

LSE Institute of Global Affairs (IGA), LSE LACC, the Reinventing Bretton Woods Committee (RBWC), and Banco Hipotecario jointly hosted, on 20 March 2018, a high-level policy conference on the margins of the G20 meetings in Buenos Aires. The debate on “Innovations in Global Financial Governance and the Role of Emerging Economies” included contributions from academics, policy makers, and business leaders. The IGA team included Erik Berglof, Gareth Jones, Mario I. Blejer, and Ousmene Mandeng.

The conference explored innovations in global financial governance, and areas of discussion included key innovations in terms of structures, instruments, processes, and incentives. The event also analysed the role and governance of international financial institutions (IFIs) as critical sources of policy advice, development finance, global financial safety nets, and standard/rule setting.
