In April 2018, Professor Gareth A Jones, Director of the Latin America and Caribbean Centre, will conduct research in San Carlos de Bariloche in Argentina with the help of three LSE students from the MSc in Urbanisation and Development. In collaboration with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Municipality, the Capstone project will be carried out with the aim to identify the demand, content and design for a new 'urban centre' in an extensive area of low income settlements. The team will adopt a range of research methods with local residents as well as consider the possibility for the municipality to adopt innovative planning and finance approaches in order to realise a future intervention in the the area. A final report will be written by the team, and presented to the municipality and IDB later in the year.
The project is supported by the Sustainable Cities division of the Inter-American Development Bank under the Memorandum of Understanding with the Centre.
