Dr. Zhi (Aaron) Cheng is an Assistant Professor of Information Systems and Innovation. He studies the economics of digitization for the sustainability of business and society, integrating theories of information systems, economics, marketing, and management with evidence from experimentation, econometrics, machine learning, and observational data. Aaron has so far published in leading research journals such as Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems, and Journal of Information Technology.
At LSE, Aaron has designed and taught courses such as Managing Artificial Intelligence, Social Computing, Data Analytics, and Information Services, Information Systems and Innovation: Concepts and Perspectives, and Research Design for Studies in Digital Innovation. In 2021, Aaron was nominated for the LSE Student's Union Teaching Award on "Mentoring & Personal Development" and honoured as one of the "Top 10 lectures and Class Teachers" in the LSE Department of Management.
Aaron has served as associate editor and reviewer for premier conferences in Information Systems and Management, such as ICIS, ECIS, AOM and INFORMS CIST, and has actively reviewed journal submissions at MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, Management Science, and many others.
Aaron is an active external researcher and scientist for a number of companies, government agencies, and think tanks including, TalkingData (Beijing, China), Vivat Insurance (Amsterdam, the Netherlands), and Hersha Hospitality Trust (Philadelphia, USA). He has also served as an external scientist for the National Health Development Research Center (Beijing, China).
Prior to joining LSE in 2019, Aaron did his Ph.D. in Business Administration from Temple University in the United States. Before that, he studied Management Science at the Renmin University of China and worked at IBM.
