About me

Dr Hyun-Jung Lee is Associate Professor of Organisational Behaviour and Cross-Cultural Management in the Department of Management, LSE. Her research revolves around the theme of "similarities and differences" in terms of sociocultural categories including culture, ethnicity, gender, and ideology. Trained as a psychologist, she is interested in intra-individual, group, and organisational processes which help individuals and firms collaborate across organisational, national, and symbolic boundaries. Dr Lee has published in leading management journals including Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, and Organization Studies.

Dr Lee received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Psychology from the Seoul National University, and PhD from LSE. After completing her PhD, she travelled intensely around the world (some of the interesting destinations include Siberia, Mongolia, China, India, East Africa, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt) to see how people in different cultures think, feel, and live differently. Such extensive travelling experience was instrumental to the major shift of her research perspective to cross-cultural management. As for the non-academic sphere of life, she studied the History of Western Fine Arts at the Royal Academy of Arts; plays piano and classical guitar; and regularly writes opera reviews as a freelance journalist. Dr Lee's travelling, arts and music-related activities are integral to her research taste - cosmopolitanism, acculturation, migration, inclusion & exclusion, and intercultural relations.

Dr Lee is an active member of the Academy of International Business (AIB) and the Academy of Management (AoM); and has been nominated and won several awards for her research. She is also active in engaging with industry and corporate education, especially on cross-cultural issues lately. Prior to LSE, she was Assistant Professor of Organisational Behaviour at the KAIST Business School, South Korea.
