Applying for the programme

Who should apply?

We welcome applications from working professionals based in any location around the world, who meet the entry requirements for the programme. If you are not sure whether you should apply, please feel free to get in touch and send your CV or resume to dom.egmim.admissions@lse.ac.uk.

What are the entry requirements? 
  • A good Bachelor’s degree: UK 2:1 or higher, 3.5 or higher GPA, or equivalent international qualification (Country Specific Requirements to find out if your degree meets our requirements)
  • 3 or more years’ full-time, relevant work experience
  • ‘Standard’ level English language - IELTS or TOEFL: if your native language is not English or if the language of instruction of your previous degree is not English (Check English Language Requirements for full details)
  • GMAT or GRE: this is recommended only for applicants who do not meet the Bachelor’s degree requirements above. For those applicants only, this is not required but is strongly recommended as it will make your application more competitive.

Am I eligible if I already have a Master's degree?

Yes. We welcome applications from academically excellent students, and a Master’s degree will boost your application.

When is the application deadline/closing date?

Applications open in October each year, for entry to the programme the following August. There is no deadline for applications as we operate admissions on a rolling basis, so you may submit an application at any time - however we encourage applicants to apply as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

Is there an application fee?

What references are needed?

We ask that you submit one professional reference and one academic reference. Two professional references may be submitted for candidates who have been out of university education for five years or longer. More than two references may be submitted. 

Is the GMAT or GRE necessary?

Candidates who meet the Bachelor’s degree entry requirements do not need to submit a GMAT or GRE test. For other candidates the GMAT is strongly recommended (but not required) as it will make your application more competitive. If you take either test, there is no minimum score but you should aim to achieve 680 or higher for the total GMAT score and for both verbal and quantitative components of the GRE test.

Do students need to be able to speak English?

Yes. All teaching on the programme will take place in English, and so students will need to meet the LSE’s ‘Standard’ level English language requirements.

Is there an admissions interview?

Candidates may be invited to an interview with the programme director and/or other key faculty and staff either by telephone, video conference or in person at LSE, depending on their circumstances and application. 

 

Your current employment

Do I need to be employed?

You do not need to be employed to be eligible, however 3 or more years’ relevant work experience is required to enter the programme. Any candidates who are not currently employed will need to explain this in their personal statement, and outline both what they will contribute and what they seek to gain from the programme.

What does my employer need to do?

Your employer will need to agree to support your enrolment on the programme and allow the necessary time out of the office to attend the seven classroom modules over 17 months. 

We also encourage you to discuss financial sponsorship with your employer, as an investment in this programme will provide a valuable return for you and your organisation.

We welcome employers to participate in the student's learning experience on the programme, particularly in the dissertation and capstone project which students will complete at the end of the programme. Learn more about working with us. 

My grades are slightly lower than required, or have extenuating circumstances. Can I still apply?

All applications are considered on their merits. Our selectors consider not only the marks on your transcript but also the academic references, personal statement and any additional GRE/GMAT test scores where relevant. If there are extenuating circumstances to your grades, please make sure that your referee(s) mention them in their letters. Your application will be strengthened if your GRE/GMAT scores (if required by your chosen programme) are high. Please bear in mind, however, that competition for places is high, and therefore if your grades are lower than the general requirements, this may consequently mean you are less likely to be offered a place.

How much time will I need to take out of the office?

In total you will be required to be out the office no longer than 9 weeks throughout the course of the programme.

You will be required to attend all seven class modules. Modules in London will be 1-2 weeks in duration. International modules each last 1 week. Please take into consideration travel time to and from the modules.

Programme details

What credential will I receive when I graduate?

You will receive a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

When does the programme begin?

We have one intake a year, which begins every August.

When does the programme end?

The last module takes place at LSE in January at the end of 17 months. Students will submit their final paper (the dissertation capstone project) by March in order to participate in the LSE Graduation Ceremony in July.

What is the expected class size and profile?

We expect a diverse cohort of 40-45 students from around the world, ranging in age from 25 to 60, and with a range of employment backgrounds. Please see our programme pages for more details on the class profile. 

How much study time will be required outside of class for each module?

Classes typically run from 0930-1730 during the modules, in 3.5 hour sessions. As a rough guide, we estimate that you will need to do 1.5 hours studying outside of the classroom for every 1 contact hour during the module.

What support is provided in between modules?

Throughout the course of the programme students will have access to a sophisticated online learning platform so they can stay connected in between modules. Faculty may use this to plan intersession activities such as revision sessions and discussions. Students will submit assignments through the site. The administration will use it to communicate with the class for important announcements and reminders. By using the online technology students will remain an active part of the LSE community from wherever they are based in the world.

How will courses be assessed?

Courses will be assessed through a variety of methods including papers, presentations, take-home exams and group work that help students understand how to put into practice the various components of effective management (marketing, human behaviour, economics, global strategy, etc.). There will also be a final dissertation or capstone project based on a topic selected by the student, which can relate to their organisation and personal and professional career goals.

Visas

Will I need a visa to study on this programme?

Visa requirements vary depending on your nationality and circumstances.

Different visa arrangements may apply for the UK modules and the two international modules. We will assist you throughout the admissions process and provide information to those of you who may require visas for the overseas modules. We can supply supporting documents for visa applications. Fees and payment

What are the fees?

The programme fees for 2024 entry are £71,086. Please see Fees and financing page for details.

Can I pay in instalments/are payment plans available?

Can I apply for scholarships?

As a programme for working professionals, this degree is not eligible for the LSE’s Graduate Support Scheme. However candidates may seek additional funding from sources listed on the LSE Financial Support page for students from particular backgrounds and nationalities. More information can also be found here.

Are accommodation costs in London covered?

No. Students will be responsible for accommodation costs for the LSE modules.  However LSE does negotiate corporate rates with hotels near the School that students can benefit from and during some modules rooms may be available in some LSE Residencies.

 

LSE facilities and services

Will students have full access to LSE's services and facilities?

Yes. As a registered student at LSE you will have full access to the School's services and facilities, including the famous LSE Library and the Careers Service. You will also have the opportunity to attend LSE's excellent programme of public lectures and events, given by some of the world's foremost academics, politicians and business leaders.
