Visiting Academics

The Department of Media and Communications Visiting Appointments Scheme provides a way for academics and practitioners from other institutions to conduct research, or be involved in other academic-related activities in collaboration with the Department of Media and Communications. Visiting academics/practitioners are given full access to the LSE Library and other LSE resources. No fee is payable to LSE and likewise no salary is paid by the School for these appointments.

The following types of visiting appointments are available at the School:

Guests

Visitors who faculty wish to collaborate with for a shorter time can be a Guest. Faculty should extend a personal invite to their respective guests. 

Please notify Media.Visitors@lse.ac.uk of the invitee so an ancillary card request can be submitted.

How to apply (for Visiting Academics only)

Step 1

Complete the Visiting Appointments Proposal Form, so that your application can be considered formally by the Department.

  • Please note that only Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and Professors can sponsor visitors under the Visiting Appointments Scheme.
  • Please note that appointments are a minimum of twelve weeks and a maximum of three years.

Step 2

Your application will be considered by the Department and, if successful, will be submitted formally to our Human Resources Division to be approved by the Vice-Chair of the Appointments Committee. You should hear from the School within 8 weeks of your application if it has been successful.

Step 3

If your application is successful, you will be contacted by the Department to notify you, and you will be required to complete a Visitor Details Form. 

Step 4

On completion of the Visitor Details Form, a formal letter will be issued from Human Resources.
