About me

Shira Dvir Gvirsman (Ph.D. Hebrew University, 2011) is an associate professor at the Dan Department of Communication, Tel Aviv University. Her fields of interest are news consumption practices and their implications on political behaviour.

In the last years, she has led the SNSNEWS project (ERC-starting grant). This project explores the growing dominance of social media as a source for news that influenced both audiences and news production. Alongside this project, she is also part of a multi-disciplinary research group that studied the crisis of democratic representation in the Israeli context. By looking at politicians, media, and citizens, the project outlines changes in reciprocal relations between politicians and citizens and how such changes might impact citizens’ feelings of representation.
