Yi Yan, PhD is Associate Professor of International Communication at the School of Politics and International Relations at the East China Normal University and Senior Visiting Senior Fellow at the Department of Media and Communication, LSE. She received her PhD in media and communication studies from City University of Hong Kong. She focuses on the research area of international communication and Chinese political communication, specializing in content analysis and discourse analysis. Her papers have been published in several leading academic journals, including Humanities and Social Sciences Communications, Public Relations Review, Chinese Journal of Communication, Asian Journal of Communication, and others. She has led a national-level social science research project on the evolution of U.S. public opinion toward China from 2000 to 2020, which received an outstanding final evaluation. In recent years, her research has concentrated on China’s humanitarian communication practices, the mediation of international issues, and issue framing. In the field of Chinese political communication, her previous work has focused on the institutionalization of China’s press conference system, political rituals, and media events.
