About the Commission

The LSE Truth, Trust and Technology Commission (T3) deals with the crisis in public information. We seek to identify current trends, policy and strategy opportunities which provide ideas for solving the pressing challenges caused by online misinformation. The T3 Commission is led by Professor Charlie Beckett and Professor Sonia Livingstone and up until the report publication in November 2018, was overseen by a group of Commissioners, including LSE academics as well as leading figures from the media and information sectors, politics and civil society. View Commissioners and meet the T3 team.

Activities carried out in 2018 include:

  • Holding a series of consultative seminars with a wide range of practitioners, experts, officials, researchers, activists, politicians, regulators and civil society representatives.
  • Gathering existing research and mapping initiatives by industry, government and other organisations.
  • Organising public facing events including a major conference.
  • Publishing a final report in autumn 2018.

Since the report's publication, we have continued to contribute to relevant policy processes and publish analysis on our blog.

The detailed agenda was determined by the Commissioners and the participants in the seminars and conferences, and addressed a range of highly topical problems where critical policy and strategy decisions are currently being made.

The key (interrelated) themes addressed are:
