Despite these strengths, ASEAN has never been able to realize its full political and economic potential. What are the main impediments holding ASEAN back? Can ASEAN play a role in re-shaping a new regional order within the Asia - Pacific region? Can ASEAN emerge as a force on the global stage?

Khun Abhisit Vejjajiva is leader of the Democrat Party and was the 27th Prime Minister of Thailand between 2008 and 2011. He earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Oxford University.
