How to book a shared room in halls

Share a room with a friend or let us pair you up with someone

This page sums up what you need to know about booking a shared room.

Only people of the same sex and course level can share a room (unless they’re a couple, in which case you need to book a couple room).

You have two options to share a room:

A - share with a friend you already know
B - let us pair you up with a roommate

A - share with someone you know

If you know who you want to share with, you have until 1 August 2022 to make your sharer bookings, subject to availability. We can't guarantee that we can accommodate your request, but we'll do our best to allocate you together.

You can do this from within your accommodation account if your booking is for:

  • a space in a shared room - The process is as follows:
Step 1 - sharer 1 must make their booking and specify that they know who they would like to share their room with
Step 2 - sharer 1 will then receive a 'sharer code' to send to sharer 2
Step 3 - sharer 2 must use the 'sharer code' within 24 hours of sharer 1's booking to make their booking for the same room. (sharer 2 shouln't make a booking before receiving the 'sharer code' from sharer 1).

The process works in the same way for triple rooms (sharer 1 should send the 'sharer code' to sharer 2 and 3).

The above process was introduced in May 2022. If you booked accommodation for a space in a shared room for the academic year 2022/23 prior to this date, you will not have received a 'sharer code'. You will instead have been invited to enter your allocation request after you made your booking. We can't guarantee that we can accommodate your request, but we'll do our best to allocate you together.
  • If your booking is for a room in a hall that has a flat-style layout - you can enter the sharer name by going to 'My summary screen' in your accommodation account and enter an allocation request. Remember to complete this by 1 August 2022. For the allocation request to be considered, all students must reciprocate the request and mention all sharer names.

Make an allocation request

If you don't have a booking for either a shared room or a room in a hall with flat-style layout, you won't be able to make an allocation request.

B - let us to pair you up with a roommate

If you don't have a friend you'd like to share with, no problem (many people don't).

We'll pair you up with someone who is the same gender as you are and who is studying in the same year at LSE.

All you need to do is select a shared room type from the rooms we show you during your booking.
