Top three reasons why you should study languages at LSE

  1. You’ll be using and researching living languages in a multilingual global city and a truly international university.
  2. We have an excellent record for student feedback and attainment. You’ll combine language learning with world-class disciplinary study in international relations and sociology.
  3. You will also spend the third year of your programme studying abroad at a partner institution in one of five countries, depending on your language choice.

What is it like to study a degree in the Language Centre?

Our Language Centre degree programmes allow students to combine either international relations or language culture and society courses with the development of advanced language skills. Students will take language, literature and linguistic courses, designed to develop an understanding of intercultural communication as well as language proficiency skills. BSc International Relations and Chinese is intended for beginners in Mandarin, rather than fluent speakers. BSc Language Culture and Society students can select from one of five modern languages: French; German; Mandarin; Russian or Spanish. There is no language pre-requisite.
