The Department of Statistics offers four undergraduate degrees: BSc Actuarial Science, BSc Actuarial Science with a Placement Year, BSc Data Science and BSc Mathematics, Statistics and Business. They are designed for students with a strong mathematical ability and an interest to learn from a social science perspective that embraces multifaceted interdisciplinary approaches and insights (eg, societal context and ethical dimensions).
Our programmes provide students with a strong foundation of statistical and mathematical theories. Students learn how to apply their quantitative skills to solve practical problems. The BSc Actuarial Science and the BSc Mathematics, Statistics and Business focus on the application of statistics and mathematics to the world of business, finance, and social sciences. Students can select courses from a range of areas, including applicable mathematics, applied statistics, actuarial science, data analytics, economics, finance, and accounting. The BSc Data Science focuses on statistics, mathematics, data science and analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and programming.
