Getting involved in Widening Participation

Make a difference to young lives or get support with your own transition to LSE

I have really enjoyed being able to give back to the community and make a difference to young people’s decisions regarding Higher Education
LSE student

The Widening Participation (WP) team works with young people from under-represented backgrounds in state schools and colleges. We aim to raise their aspirations and attainment, and to increase their awareness of their higher education options.

We also support current LSE students who have taken part in Widening Participation programmes in the past, or who come from groups that are under-represented in higher education.

Many LSE students support our Widening Participation programmes. Student Ambassadors help deliver activities for 10-18 year olds on-campus, virtually and at other locations (eg, London schools/colleges). Other LSE students support us as mentors or tutors.

Why work for us?

LSE students are essential to WP schemes, acting as inspiring role models and sources of information and support. All opportunities are paid.

Benefits of working with Widening Participation:

  • Help make a difference to the lives of local children and young people
  • Share the benefits of your LSE education with a new generation
  • Get involved in your local community
  • Strengthen your CV
  • Build transferable skills such as leadership, communication and organisation
  • Opportunities to undertake training in areas such as safeguarding / child protection and effective online delivery.

How do I find out more?

Applications for 2022/2023 are now unfortunately closed. Student Staff Roles within the LSE Widening Participation (WP) team will open on Monday 11 September 2023. Please check this page again closer to the time for any updates.
