Supporting transition to LSE

Headstart has been such an important initiative in my transition to LSE.

Starting university is exciting, but it can also bring unique challenges and anxieties. Our Headstart programme aims to support with the transition to university life. It’s aimed at students who have taken part in one of our widening participation activities or are from a group currently under-represented at LSE. Headstart aims to create a network of supportive peers, signpost opportunities, enhance the university experience and maximise success at LSE and beyond.

When and where does the scheme run?

The next Headstart events will take place:

  • Online, via Zoom, during the week before LSE Welcome Week on Wednesday 14th September 2022 from 10am-1pm.
  • In-person, during LSE Welcome Week, on Wednesday 21st September from 5:30-8pm. The event will take place in a Central London location. If you are eligible to participate in the programme, you will have been emailed details.

What activities are included?

The online Headstart event will include the following sessions:

  • LSE Students Union
  • LSE Disability Support and Wellbeing
  • LSE Peer Support Schemes
  • LSE Careers
  • LSE Financial Support Office
  • Study Skills for your Transition to Higher Education
  • Q&A with current LSE students
  • Getting to know each other- Networking session.

Are there any costs involved?

There is no cost to attend. Travel reimbursements are available to cover the costs to and from sessions, if required.

Who is eligible?

  • Students who have taken part in a widening participation activity with LSE or a partner organisation  

  • Students who come from a group currently underrepresented at LSE, as outlined in our Access and Participation plan.

How can I find out more and apply?

You do not need to apply to be part of the LSE Headstart programme. Eligible offer holders who have met the conditions of their offer will be invited to join Headstart as soon as possible after A-level results day.

Cancellation Policy

Please note that as a result of circumstances or events outside of our control (known as ‘Force Majeure’ events and including but not limited to industrial action, official government advice, fire, flood or other environmental or physical damage to premises), we may need to cancel sessions at short notice. 

In the event of a cancellation, change of venue or date, we will endeavour to notify attendees wherever possible through the contact details given at the time of booking. For the avoidance of doubt, the School will not be liable for any costs you may incur as a result of any cancellation, change of venue or date.
