How to apply

Applications for the 2024/25 academic year are now closed.

You will be requested to provide/upload the following information as part of your application:

Statement of Academic Purpose

As part of your application, you are required to tell us about the following:

  1. How has your academic journey prepared you for study abroad at LSE? Your response should be about your experiences in your first year of undergraduate study, such as the courses you have taken; subject areas of particular interest; extracurricular activities related to your academic interests, and any challenges you may have faced. (Max 300 words)
  2. Why you have chosen to apply to study abroad and what you hope to gain from it? Your response should discuss your motivation for undertaking a year abroad and how you believe the study abroad programme will help you achieve both your academic and personal/professional ambitions. (Max 300 words)
  3. What are the courses you would like to study at LSE and why you are interested in them? (Max 300 words)

Please ensure your responses are academically focused, and answer each question separately. Please combine into one document and include your name on each page.

Transcript

You will need to attach an up-to-date transcript covering all of your university level study to-date. If you are in your second year of university, it should show all grades obtained up to the point of submitting your application, typically three semesters.

If you have transferred to your current institution from another university/college you will need to supply a transcript of your marks from the other institution/institutions as well.

All transcripts must be in English, or be accompanied by an official translation if they are in another language.

Reference

You will be required to provide the name and institutional email address of an academic reference. It is advisable to select a referee who is familiar with your academic work in fields relevant to your General Course application.

Your referee will be emailed and invited to complete a short questionnaire and upload their letter of reference. If your home institution collects an academic reference as part of their internal selection process this can be emailed to us directly by your Study Abroad Adviser at gc@lse.ac.uk.

Course Preferences

You will need to identify up to six courses of particular interest to assist us in assessing your application. At this stage these are indicative course choices, and will not necessarily reflect the courses you ultimately study at the School. Please read the information about choosing your courses before you apply.

We operate a rolling admissions process, until 31 July 2025 or all the available places are filled, whichever is sooner. Applicants are encouraged to apply early.

If you believe you might benefit from the support provided by LSE's Disability and Mental Health Service you are encouraged to contact them prior to application.
