For students to realise their potential in the coming years, a university education must go beyond academic excellence.

LSE Student Futures brings together development opportunities from across the School to help students become active global citizens and explore different routes to make an impact on the world.

The initiative will facilitate access to a range of transformational life experiences that happen outside the classroom, enabling students to pursue their interests, grow as people, develop their confidence and extend their networks. Student Futures has been made possible through the generous support of Raph Appadoo (BSc Economics 1973), and will ensure that all students can benefit from transformative educational opportunities, regardless of their background or financial circumstances.

Flagship activities in 2020/21 include the establishment of LSE Public Research Partners to connect students with NGOs and small businesses so that they can carry out research projects to impact civic issues, and funding 30 micro-internships for students to gain work experience.

Opportunities for students to learn and develop off-campus will continue to be an important part of LSE Student Futures. As we get used to the realities of COVID-secure learning, the School will continue to build on opportunities to deliver safe and valuable experiences for students.

“For students to realise their potential in the coming years, a university education must go beyond academic excellence,” said Raph.

“As an alumnus, I share LSE’s commitment to enabling students to learn from, and connect with, the LSE community. I am proud to support Student Futures, which is providing educational opportunities outside of the classroom with charities, NGOs, alumni and the private sector.”
