This event brought together a panel of US politics experts to take stock of the Biden administration's first year in office, including his performance with regard to core campaign promises concerning the pandemic, the economy, race, inequality and climate change.
Jacob S Hacker (@Jacob_S_Hacker) is Stanley Resor Professor of Political Science and a resident fellow of the Institution for Social and Policy Studies at Yale University. An expert on American politics and policy, he is the author or co-author of more than a half-dozen books, numerous journal articles, and a wide range of popular writings. His latest book, written with Paul Pierson, is Let Them Eat Tweets: How the Right Rules in an Age of Extreme Inequality (2020). A regular policy advisor and expert commentator, Professor Hacker is known for his writings on health policy, especially his development of the so-called public option.
Ursula Hackett (@UrsulaBHackett) is Senior Lecturer in Politics at Royal Holloway, University of London. Her Cambridge University Press book America's Voucher Politics: How Elites Learned to Hide the State won the 2021 Education Politics and Policy Best Book Award from the American Political Science Association. She has published her research in journals such as Policy Studies Journal, Studies in American Political Development, Presidential Studies Quarterly, and Politics and Religion. Her research encompasses American Political Development, federalism, public policymaking, education, and religion and politics.
G John Ikenberry is the Albert G. Milbank Professor of Politics and International Affairs at Princeton University in the Department of Politics and the School of Public and International Affairs. Ikenberry is also a Global Eminence Scholar at Kyung Hee University in Seoul, Korea. In 2018-2019, Ikenberry was a Visiting Fellow at All Souls College, Oxford University. In 2013-2014, Ikenberry was the 72nd Eastman Visiting Professor at Balliol College, Oxford. Ikenberry is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Mark Landler (@MarkLandler) is the London bureau chief of The New York Times. In 27 years at The Times, he has been bureau chief in Hong Kong and Frankfurt, White House correspondent, diplomatic correspondent, European economic correspondent, and a business reporter in New York. He is the author of Alter Egos, a comparative study of the foreign policy of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Paula D McClain (@pauladmcclain) is the James B. Duke Distinguished Professor of Political Science and Professor of Public Policy and Dean of The Graduate School and Vice Provost for Graduate Education at Duke University. She is a scholar of Race, Ethnicity and Politics (REP). Her work with her graduate students established one of the foundational research areas in the subfield of Race, Ethnicity and Politics (REP)— inter-minority group relations. She is past president of the American Political Science Association and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Peter Trubowitz (@ptrubowitz) is Professor of International Relations and Director of the Phelan US Centre at the London School of Economics and Political Science and Associate Fellow at Chatham House.
