About me

Xizi’s research focus on social mobility in imperial China between 1700-1900. She particularly interests in the mobility pattern of elite group and the strategies those families applied to perpetuate their social status. Not only focusing on male descendants in those families, she also interests in the role of women played in those families. She intends to reveal mobility patterns through civil service examination, career development in officialdom, and marriage alliance.

Xizi has a BSc in International Economics and Trade (first class) from University of Nottingham Ningbo China, and a MRes in Economic History (Distinction) from the London School of Economics. 

In addition to her current PhD thesis, Xizi's other interest is in the Grand Canal as well as its corresponding institution system and its role in the Qing economy.
