Midanna is a PhD candidate in Demography supervised by Dr Tiziana Leone and Professor Ernestina Coast.

Midanna’s doctoral research uses qualitative and quantitative methods and is focused on the uptake, use, and discontinuation of long-acting reversible contraceptives in sub-Saharan Africa. Her work is grounded in reproductive justice and empowerment. Her research interests include social demography, sexual and reproductive health, contraceptive methods, (in)fertility, and data use for decision-making.

Midanna holds a BA in International Development and Economics from McGill University and a MSc in Global Population Health from the London School of Economics. Prior to commencing her PhD, she worked as a research assistant and data analyst in research institutes and non-governmental organisations across North America and sub-Saharan Africa. Her prior work experience spanned several topics within international development, global health, and data accessibility and use.
