Open to communicators, including journalists, podcasters, social media influencers, photographers and videographers, environment activists and advocates*.
Accordingly, the GLI is collaborating with the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) to offer a free course for communicators interested in raising awareness in their own countries of land degradation and what can be done to prevent, reduce or halt it, and to restore degraded and manage at-risk land. The fully funded (flights, accommodation, lunch) 5-day course in London will cover:
- An introduction to land restoration, the problem and solutions
- Power and systems thinking for effective influencing
- Strategic communications and building a persuasive narrative
- Media engagement in a crowded public sphere
- Broadening your communications tools (VR & AR, online platforms, AI, filmmaking, podcasting, citizen journalism)
- A visit to a land restoration project site in the UK
Course participants will develop communications strategies on a land restoration challenge in their own countries. The best will be awarded funds to implement them after the course ends. All graduates will receive a certificate.
How to Apply
Potential participants must submit a short communications output on a land restoration initiative in their own countries. This can take the form of a long-form media story (documentary, features, etc), blog, vlog post, podcast, etc or social media story on one of multiple platforms. More information below.
The deadline for submissions is 15 December 2024, 11:59 CET. Submissions must be made in English.
LSE/GLI can provide letters of invitation, but successful applicants but participants will be responsible for securing their own visa.
