About me

Shoshana is a doctoral candidate within the Department of Health Policy and a recipient of the NIHR School for Social Care Research Studentship. Her thesis research employs psycho-social methodologies to examine the concept of trauma and its growing popularity as an informed care practice. Through ethnographic observation and life-course, narrative interviewing, Shoshana examines how the concept is taken up by service users with serious mental illness, and its impact on their understandings of self and personal history. Shoshana is based at LSE’s Care Policy and Evaluation Centre (CPEC), where she has also conducted research and developed a conceptual framework on ‘mental health social care’ in England.

Shoshana’s interests come from extensive study of medical sociology and psychosocial theory. She received her BA in Sociology at Barnard College, Columbia University (2018) and an MPhil in Sociology (Marginality and Exclusion) from the University of Cambridge (2019). Shoshana began training clinically in psychoanalytic psychotherapy with the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust in Autumn 2023.
