You can pick-up a print copy of Ratio 2019 from Law Department Reception, Level 6, New Academic Building.
This year’s edition has a distinct focus on the Department’s centenary, as 2019 marked 100 years since the appointment of LSE’s first Law Professor, H. C. Gutteridge. The opening article recounts the history of the department, reflecting on how law and legal teaching, research and scholarship has changed over the last 100 years.
Readers gain an insight into the life and career of Department of Law alum, Mr Patrick Mears OBE, and step into the mind of Professor Gerry Simpson for a minute, to hear how the Cold War looms large as an influence on his life and research to-date.
Looking to the future, we hear from some current students and the incredible work they are doing to inspire change and share their knowledge and skills with others. Students such as Tosin Murana who, inspired by her own experience at high school, went on to establish the start-up organisation, Hi-R (pronounced higher) to help other high school students from less privileged backgrounds write their university applications. We also recap some of our major public events, which covered many of this year’s big issues, including: the Trump presidency; Brexit and climate change.
