Nakul Nayak is a doctoral researcher at the LSE Law School. His research revolves around technology’s influence on the intellectual trajectory of constitutional concepts such as fundamental rights, democracy, federalism and so on.
Before joining the LSE, Nakul was an Assistant Professor at Jindal Global Law School, where he taught courses such as Administrative Law, Labour Law, and Comparative Constitutionalism. Outside academia, Nakul has worked with research organisations such as the Centre for Communication Governance at New Delhi, the Global Network Initiative at Washington DC (on the Google Public Policy Fellowship), and the Internet Freedom Foundation. Nakul has also clerked at the Delhi High Court and practiced law at the Supreme Court of India in the chambers of Mr. Raghav Shankar.
Nakul has published in journals such as the American Journal of Comparative Law and the Indian Journal of Law and Technology, and with popular media outlets such as the Hindustan Times and the Caravan. His work has been cited by the UN Special Rapporteur on Free Expression (in a report on online hate speech), in multiple Freedom on the Net Reports published by Freedom House (2016-2021), among others. His research has also been covered by media outlets such as Foreign Policy, Article 14, Livemint, among others.
Nakul obtained his BA (Hons) LLB (Hons) in 2015 from National Law University, Jodhpur, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the journal Trade, Law & Development, and his LLM in 2019 from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he graduated as the class Valedictorian.
