The MSc Law and Finance is an exciting new interdisciplinary programme, designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary for leading professional roles at the intersection of law and finance.
Taught jointly by the renowned LSE Law School and Department of Finance, this MSc programme is being offered for the first time in 2025/26. The programme provides a comprehensive understanding of fundamental concepts and principles of finance, and their relevance for both legal rules and legal practice.
How is the programme structured?
Central to the interdisciplinary approach of the MSc Law and Finance is the close integration of the core Law and Finance modules, including bespoke new courses exclusive to this programme. These modules have been carefully designed to ensure you can competently navigate complex transactions from both legal and financial perspectives. This includes a holistic understanding of how corporations finance their operations and how – and why – they acquire other businesses. In addition to the core modules, you can choose from a range of carefully selected courses from LSE’s extensive offerings in both law and finance, allowing you to enhance your knowledge in your chosen area and tailor the programme to your needs and interests.
The Autumn Term will consist of:

Preparatory academic classes will cover materials in both law and finance, ensuring all students are suitably equipped for the first term’s core courses.
Who is the degree suitable for?
The degree is full-time and on-campus only. It is suitable for both those who have recently completed undergraduate study, and those with professional experience looking to enhance their existing careers or changing into roles requiring a solid understanding of both law and finance. Although primarily targeted towards students with an academic background in law, candidates with degrees in other disciplines may be accepted to the programme if they have relevant legal or regulatory experience.
What kinds of careers might this degree lead to?
This degree is designed to open up career opportunities in both the legal and financial sectors. We expect graduates to progress into roles at corporate law firms, demanding in-house legal roles, or to transition into careers in commercial or investment banking, private equity, M&A advisory, business consultancy, policy-making, and regulation. Throughout the programme, seasoned legal and financial practitioners will provide additional context, both in the classroom and through an extensive extracurricular events programme, ensuring the link between the academic content and its practical relevance remains at the foreground.
