LSE Health and the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases (NCCD) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the presence of the UK Secretary of State, Jeremy Hunt and the Chinese Vice Minister, Cui Li.
The signing took place during a high level Health Policy Dialogue between the UK and China held in Beijing.
The MoU enables the two organisations to work together to promote academic excellence and collaboration on research activities and to create a joint Hub for Health Economics and Policy Research in China.
The Hub will have research bases in both the UK and China and will enable the two organisations to jointly produce high quality research. It’s work will focus on:
- informing evidence based health policy making
- developing strategic opportunities for the UK and Chinese commercial sectors
- training Chinese researchers and policy-makers in health economics, policy, and management
- training UK researchers in health policy and reforms in China
- developing China’s largest health bio bank (approximately 5 million biological samples from Chinese patients) housed at the NCCD
Initial research collaborations are expected to focus on:
- financing, organisation and delivery of all aspects of healthcare services in China
- cardiovascular disease and the development, implementation, and analysis of the China PEACE-pro Million Persons Project
- health economics and genomics research
- China’s pharmaceutical system
- development of coherent health R&D and pharmaceutical and health technology industrial policies for China
The National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases (NCCD)
NCCD is China’s premier institution for CVD-related research and clinical practice and home to China’s largest bio bank (approximately 5 million biological samples from Chinese patients) as well as the world’s largest prospective study on CVD (China PEACE-pro Million Persons Project, MPP) which surveys over 4 million people throughout China.
The Centre is in a unique position to engage in outcomes research (clinical trials and quality assessments), population studies, and CVD pathogenic mechanism studies.
