Dr Julia Zimmermann is a Research Fellow at the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies based at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Her work at the Observatory has been focused on health system resilience and she covers country work on Israel.
Before joining the European Observatory in 2022, Julia worked on health workforce finance at the Department of Health and Social Care in the UK. She also was a Blue Book trainee at the European Commission in the unit “Measuring Health Systems Performance” at DG SANTE, where she worked on COVID-19 recovery funds and the State of Health in the EU cycle. A GMC registered medical doctor, Julia has worked at the clinical frontline in various medical and surgical departments and has completed her Academic Foundation Programme in Cambridge.
Julia holds a joint MSc in Health Policy, Planning and Financing from the LSE and LSHTM for which she received the Brian-Abel Smith prize for the best dissertation. She received an MBBS with dual distinction, the Adam Snape Audit prize (highly commended) and an intercalated BSc in Immunity and Infection from Imperial College. She is an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
