Jonathan Cylus is the head of the London Hubs of the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies based at the LSE and LSHTM, and Senior Health Economist in the WHO Barcelona Office for Health Systems Financing. His main research is on health systems, focusing primarily on health financing policy, health economics and health system performance. He has worked on these topics in many countries in Europe and beyond, as well as with the European Commission, OECD and WHO. Jon is also interested in the role of social policies and other social determinants on health. Prior to joining the Observatory, Jonathan was an economist at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) in the United States where he worked on health care expenditure projections, hospital productivity, and health care expenditure estimates by age and gender.
Jon has a BA in Economics from Johns Hopkins University, and an MSc and PhD from the LSE.
