Health Policy

The establishment of policy is key to the implementation of actions for health. We review the nature of policy and the definition and directions of health policy.

How a population pays for its healthcare coverage sits at the nexus of competing economic, political, and philosophical considerations. With universal healthcare coverage (UHC) being one of the key priorities of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), all organised systems of healthcare need to address the fundamental question of how to raise the necessary levels of funding in order to ensure access to affordable, equitable, quality healthcare for all those in need of it.

We produce robust, evidence-informed research that supports these ongoing areas of policy and debate. To do this, we look at healthcare financing and insurance structures, priority-setting procedures, health benefits package design and adjustment, and healthcare accessibility and equitability indicators across high, middle- and low-income countries. We evaluate traditional models including general taxation and insurance models, alongside emerging innovations including crowdfunding.
