Bernardita is an Associate at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change
As a lawyer by training, I made a deliberate choice to dedicate my professional career to public service. My journey began in the Chilean Senate, where I immersed myself in the intricacies of legislative processes and policy development. It was here that I first felt the profound impact that well-crafted policies could have on the lives of countless individuals. Eager to further my contributions, I transitioned to the Cabinet of the Minister of Education, where I played a central role in drafting education bills and engaging in complex negotiations to drive forward transformative reforms. In this dynamic setting, my passion for politics truly flourished as I navigated the complex intersection of policy and governance, shaping my approach to effective policymaking.
Eager to deepen my understanding and refine my skills, I chose to pursue a Master in Public Policy at LSE. What drew me to this program was its unique blend of academic rigor and real-world applicability. Guided by distinguished professors with extensive governmental experience, I was immersed in an environment that fostered critical thinking and encouraged innovative approaches to policy challenges. However, what truly made my experience unforgettable was the exceptional cohort of individuals I was privileged to learn alongside. Their diverse perspectives and unwavering dedication to effecting positive change enriched every discussion and broadened my horizons in ways I had not imagined.
After completing my studies, I was immediately drawn to the unique work carried out by the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change. Its innovative approach to supporting political leaders worldwide resonated deeply with my passions and skills. Here, I found myself at the forefront of strategy, policy, and delivery, utilizing technology as an enabler to drive impactful change. What sets our work apart is our profound understanding of the intricate interplay between policy imperatives and political realities across diverse global contexts. This nuanced understanding enables us to collaborate effectively with governments at the highest levels, crafting solutions that are both visionary and pragmatic.
Reflecting on my time at LSE, I'm deeply thankful for the invaluable skills, insights, and meaningful connections it provided. These assets are now indispensable tools in my daily work with governments worldwide. Moving forward, my dedication remains unwavering: to use my expertise to tackle policy challenges alongside governments, but ultimately, to return to Chile fuelled by the diverse experiences gained globally, ready to contribute to positive change in my homeland.
