Name: Andrea Vega Talledo

Programme and year: Master of Public Policy, Class of 2025

Nationality: Peruvian

Can you tell us about your background and why you chose to study the MPP programme at SPP?

I am a Peruvian lawyer and proud public servant with over seven years of experience specializing in competition and consumer protection policies. At Indecopi, Peru’s Consumer Protection and Competition Authority, I have actively contributed to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals both locally and globally. I have also led initiatives promoting public policies in digital advertising, positioning my institution and Peru as international leaders in this field.

I chose the MPP at LSE because of its global reputation, the diverse academic opportunities it provides, and the chance to engage with professionals from all over the world and with different backgrounds.

What are the highlights from Welcome and your first few weeks?

The Welcome weeks were fantastic. This time gave my cohort and myself the opportunity to really get to know each other and find interests in common. We really became friends!

These weeks also provided a smooth transition into the academic environment at LSE and introduced us to the facilities and resources available. The MPP team was really helpful during these weeks (they continue to be), and they arranged wonderful events like the treasure hunt, which was my favorite activity to discover London and bond with my cohort.

What have you been most surprised to learn?

I’ve been most surprised by the incredible diversity within our cohort. We come from different countries, fields, and have diverse experiences, creating a dynamic environment where classes and discussions are enriching.

A key learning for me so far is that besides our differences, we often face similar challenges globally speaking, which can be addressed through well-designed and implemented public policies. Additionally, during these months at the MPP, I have learnt the critical importance of involving relevant stakeholders and developing clear communication when working on and delivering effective policies. The MPP provides a great opportunity to develop these skills through initiatives like the SPP Professional Skills Accelerator.

What are you most looking forward to?

I am excited about continuing to learn from the School of Public Policy and LSE’s broader community. The university offers a huge list of really interesting events, activities, and opportunities that I look forward to engaging with. Being at a world-leading institution is a privilege, and I am eager to maximize this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity by gaining diverse experiences and broadening my skills and network.

What are you hoping to achieve whilst you are at the LSE SPP?

During my time at the LSE School of Public Policy, I aim to deepen my understanding of global policy development by sharing experiences with my professors, peers, and the SPP team. I hope to work on several research projects and develop real-world policy solutions that can drive positive change. Engaging with diverse perspectives will help me refine my approach to policy-making and improve my ability to contribute meaningfully to global challenges.

What are your plans for your future after graduation?

I am sure that after graduating from the MPP I will be well-equipped to propose impactful, evidence-based public policies that improve lives. With my background and all the knowledge I will have gained from the LSE, I aspire to join an organization where I can foster spaces to promote better evidenced-based policies for better lives, focusing on achieving the sustainable development goals and promoting free and fair competition.

Can you describe your SPP experience so far in 3 words?

Life-changing. Inspiring. Thriving.
