My name is Minji, and I will share how I landed a 2024 summer internship, aided by my experience at LSE Summer School 2023. Last year, during the summer of my third year of school, I embarked on a journey that not only enhanced my knowledge but also paved the way for significant career opportunities – I enrolled in LSE Summer School. This turned out to be a pivotal point in my life that ultimately led to securing a valuable internship. Follow along to find out how!

Firstly, attending Summer School enriched my academic profile. While many students choose to study abroad, attending LSE Summer School provided me with specialised knowledge relevant to my field of study. During my internship interview, the interviewers expressed an interest in my Summer School experience. I was asked about my attendance and what I learned from the experience, and they remarked that it was a unique and impressive addition to my academic journey. I was able to demonstrate my proactive approach to learning and my dedication to my studies, which made a positive impact.

Moreover, the Summer School setting provided excellent networking opportunities - interacting with people from diverse backgrounds opened doors to valuable connections. From parties to professional development workshops, there were numerous ways to meet people and expand my network. Before Summer School, I had a passion for studying sociology but had not considered my career trajectory beyond that or after my postgraduate studies. Fortunately, engaging in numerous conversations with peers who were passionate about their careers exposed me to a multitude of career options I had not previously considered. Through meaningful discussions, I expanded my professional network, which later played a crucial role in securing referrals for my internship.

The internship search itself was rigorous. Leveraging the experience gained from Summer School, I identified internship opportunities aligned with my career goals. I tailored my applications to highlight my academic achievements and also utilised my network to seek referrals, which boosted my confidence during the application process.

In conclusion, upon receiving the internship offer, I felt a profound sense of accomplishment and gratitude. The journey at LSE Summer School was undoubtedly a pivotal experience for me. The specialised knowledge gained, coupled with the invaluable connections made during Summer School, equipped me with the tools and confidence needed to secure a rewarding internship opportunity that aligned with my aspirations.
