Director

1.Andrés Rodríguez-Pose

Andrés Rodríguez-Pose

Andrés Rodríguez-Pose is the Princesa de Asturias Chair and a Professor of Economic Geography at the London School of Economics. He is the Director of the Cañada Blanch Centre LSE. He is a former Head of the Department of Geography and Environment between 2006 and 2009. He is a past-President of the Regional Science Association International (RSAI) (2015-2017) and served as Vice-President of the RSAI in 2014. He was also Vice-President (2012-2013) and Secretary (2001-2005) of the European Regional Science Association.

He was awarded the 2018 ERSA Prize in Regional Science, arguably the highest prize in regional science, and has been a holder of a European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant and of a prestigious Royal Society-Wolfson Research Merit Award. In 2019 he received Doctorates Honoris Causa from Utrecht University (the Netherlands) and Jönköping University (Sweden).

He is an editor of Economic Geography, editor-in-chief of Journal of Geographical Systemsb>, and sits on the editorial board of 33 other scholarly journals, including many of the leading international journals in economic geography, human geography, regional science, and management. Between 1999 and 2016 he was an editor of Environment and Planning C, acting as joint chief-editor from 2008 onwards.

3.Jonathan Hopkin

Jonathan Hopkin

Jonathan Hopkin was awarded his doctorate in Social and Political Sciences from the European University Institute in 1995, and held lectureships at the Universities of Bradford, Durham and Birmingham before joining LSE in 2004. He has held various visiting positions in Spain, Italy and the United States, and is also an Associate Fellow of the Johns Hopkins University Bologna Center in Italy.

His research has mostly focused on parties and elections in Western Europe (and specifically Italy, Spain and the UK), with particular attention to corruption, political finance, and territorial politics. He is the author of Party Formation and Democratic Transition in Spain (Macmillan 1999), and has published in a range of journals including the European Journal of Political ResearchGovernanceParty Politics, the Review of International Political Economy and West European Politics. His current research focuses on the emergence of party cartels in advanced democracies, and the relationship of partisan politics to income inequality and welfare state change.

 

Simona Iammarino 2022

Simona Iammarino

Simona Iammarino is Professor of Applied Economics at the Department of Economics and Business of the University of Cagliari, Italy; Visiting Professor at the Department of Geography & Environment of the London School of Economics (LSE); member of the Board of the LSE-Cañada Blanch Centre; affiliate faculty member at the Gran Sasso Science Institute (GSSI) L’Aquila, Italy. She was Professor of Economic Geography at the LSE (2009-2022), where she acted as Head of Department (2014-2017) and academic member of the LSE Council (2016-2020).

Simona’s main research interests lie in the following areas: Multinational corporations, globalisation and local economic development; Economic geography of innovation and technological change; Regional systems of innovation; Regional and local economic development and policy. She has published more than 70 articles in major peer-reviewed journals, two co-authored books, around 30 book chapters, and numerous working papers, policy reports and other publications.

She is co-editor of the Journal of Economic Geography, and a member of the RSA Board and Chair of the RSA Journal Committee. Simona has a long-term experience in externally funded international research projects, and in consultancy projects for various international organisations (e.g. EU Commission, OECD, United Nations) and numerous government agencies. In 2024 Simona was awarded the ERSA European Prize in Regional Science, and the Giacomo Becattini Prize, Italian Society of Economics and Industrial Policy (SIEPI).

Adam Austerfield


5.Adam Austerfield

Adam Austerfield is currently Director of Urban Development at NEOM.  Prior to that he was Director for Global Markets for LSE Enterprise, applying the research and teaching expertise of LSE around the world to governments, cities and corporations from 2007-2019.  He was head of the LSE Alumni in Spain 2004 – 2020, National Vice-President of the British Chambers of Commerce in Spain 2012-2020, and a Board Member of the British Embassy in Spain 2016 – 2020.  He is also an Associate of LSE IDEAS.  Adam has a BA in Russian History from UCL (SSEES) and an MSc in Political Economy of Transition from LSE.

 

Vicente Cuñat

Vicente Cunat_lowres

Vicente Cuñat is Professor at the Department of Finance of the London School of Economics. He is a graduate of the Universidad de Valencia and holds an MSc from CEMFI. His PhD is from the department of Economics of the London School of Economics.

He has been the president and an honorary fellow of the Spanish Economic Association. He has has been awarded the young economist award by the EEA, the Jaime Fernandez de Araoz corporate finance price and the Brattle Group’s Distinguished Paper Award. He is currently associate editor of The Journal of Finance and The Journal of Corporate Finance. He is a member of CEPR and ECGI.

His research interests span topics in corporate governance, corporate finance, labour and finance, and managerial economics. His works include among others articles on mergers and acquisitions, corporate voting, financing constraints, trade credit, information provision and incentive contracts. He has published theoretical and empirical work in the American Economic Review, The Journal of Finance, the Journal of Financial Economics, the Review of Financial Studies and the Journal of the European Economic Association among others.

 

Lucía García-Lorenzo


Lucia Garcia-Lorenzo

Dr Lucia Garcia-Lorenzo is an Associate Professor in Organisational and Social Psychology in the Department of Psychological and Behavioural Science at LSE.

Lucia trained as an Organisational Psychologist at the Basque Country Universit before coming to London to conduct research towards a PhD on Cultural Change in Organisations. After a few years in the corporate world as a co-developer and manager of a publishing start up; she returned to academia through several research and consultancy projects focused on change and transitions in organisations. Currently she is looking at the transitions between work, un(der)employment and entrepreneurship that have emerged since the start of the global financial crisis. At LSE, Lucia directs the MSc in Organisational and Social Psychology; convenes the specialist graduate option, Organizational Development (PB433) and is the coordinator of the Organisational Research Group (ORG). Lucia is a Chartered Psychologist (Cpsych), an Associated Fellow of the British Psychological Society (AFBPsS) and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA).

She is the Section Editor in Psychology and Business Ethics for the Journal of Business Ethics.

 

José Javier Olivas Osuna

José Javier Olivas Osuna leads an interdisciplinary comparative project on populism and secessionism at UNED (Madrid) and is a Research at LSE IDEAS. His areas of research include Populism, Spanish politics, Brexit, and Iberian civil-military relations. He holds PhD in Government (LSE), an MSc in Public Policy and Administration (LSE). José Javier previously completed University degrees in Economics (ETEA, Córdoba), Market Research (ETEA) and European Studies (EDHEC, Lille).

 

Joan Rosés


4.Joan Roses

Joan R. Rosés is an economic historian of Modern and Contemporary Europe with interests in historical economic geography, long-run economic growth, well-being, and policy issues.

He holds a PhD degree in History and Civilization from the European University Institute. He is a professor at the Department of Economic History of the LSE, editor of the European Review of Economic History, and fellow of the CEPR and Instituto Figuerola.

Victor Perez Sanchez

Víctor Pérez-Sánchez is a 3rd-year Ph.D. Candidate at the Department of Economic History at the London School of Economics. He also works as the Administrator of the Cañada-Blanch Centre at LSE.

He undertook the bachelor of Economics at Universidad Carlos III of Madrid (UC3M) and his Msc. studies are in Economic History (Research) at LSE. Víctor received a grant for postgraduate studies in Social Sciences from the Fundación Ramón Areces (Spain).

Likewise, he is a recipient of an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Doctorate Training Partnership Award, UKRI (UK).

His research interests are monetary history, particularly in early-modern Europe, the history and nature of currency and the European monetary policy after the arrival of the American silver.
