About me

With expertise in applied economics, Liyuan’s primary research interests focus on understanding health behaviour, particularly on different behavioural incentives for health-related activities and the effectiveness of interventions to improve health-related lifestyles. In addition, he is also interested in health service development, especially in improving primary health services in developing areas, and mental health problems. His PhD study looks at how social incentives affect people’s health behaviour in Mainland China. Specifically, he aims to use natural experimental approaches to explore how role models, such as movie characters, political figures or celebrities, influence people’s health-related lifestyle including smoking, alcohol use and physical exercise.

Prior to his PhD study, he holds an MSc in International Health Policy (Health Economics) from LSE, an MSc in Applied Economics (with Distinction) from the University of Bath, and a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Hohai University, China. He has research experience at LSE Health and China Centre for Agricultural Policy (CCAP), Peking University. Besides research, he likes meditation and football. He used to be a member of the football varsity and can play as a midfielder or defender. He is also good at badminton.
