In this conversation between the project's Principal Investigators Professor Christine Chinkin and Louise Arimatsu with Professor Di Otto, the discussion will explore visions of feminist peace from the perspective of international law academics, with discussion also of a draft statement on feminist peace based on the research and interdisciplinary conversations undertaken within the Feminist International Law of Peace and Security project.
This panel is chaired by Dr Keina Yoshida, with speakers Prof Di Otto (University of Melbourne) and Louise Arimatsu (LSE Centre for Women, Peace and Security). This conversation is part of the Visions of Feminist Peace programme, supported by an AHRC grant title A Feminist International Law of Peace and Security led by Prof Christine Chinkin and Dr Louise Arimatsu. The Visions of Feminist Peace programme is co-hosted with the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF).
About the speakers:
Louise Arimatsu is Distinguished Policy Fellow in the Centre for Women, Peace and Security, where she works on the AHRC project 'A Feminist International Law of Peace and Security' and the ERC project 'Gendered Peace'. Her current research projects include 'A Feminist Foreign Policy' and 'Women and Weapons'.
Professor Christine Chinkin is Professorial Research Fellow in the Centre for Women, Peace and Security, where she leads three major projects: ‘A Feminist International Law of Peace and Security’ funded by the AHRC, ‘Gendered Peace’ funded by the ERC and the UKRI GCRF Gender, Justice and Security Hub. Professor Chinkin was Director of the Centre for Women, Peace and Security from 2015-2018.
Professor Dianne Otto is Professorial Fellow at Melbourne Law School. Her research in the field of public international law and human rights law includes addressing gender, sexuality and race inequalities, the UN Security Council’s peacekeeping work, technologies of global ‘crisis governance’ and the transformative potential of people’s tribunals. Publications include Queering International Law: Possibilities, Alliances, Complicities, Risks (Routledge 2018).
Chair: Dr Keina Yoshida is a Research Officer in the Centre for Women, Peace, and Security, where she works on the AHRC funded project Feminist Approaches to the International Law of Peace and Security (FILPS) led by Professor Christine Chinkin and Dr Louise Arimatsu. Keina also obtained funding from the British Academy to host a series of workshops in London and Bogota on Gender, Nature and Peace.
