Keynote Speakers

Cass Sunstein
Cass Sunstein is the Robert Walmsley University Professor at Harvard. He is the founder and director of the Program on Behavioral Economics and Public Policy at Harvard Law School. In 2018, he received the Holberg Prize from the government of Norway, sometimes described as the equivalent of the Nobel Prize for law and the humanities. In 2020, the World Health Organization appointed him as Chair of its technical advisory group on Behavioural Insights and Sciences for Health. He serves as an adviser to the Behavioural Insights Team in the United Kingdom.

Dilip Soman
Dilip Soman is a Canada Research Chair in Behavioural Science and Economics, and serves as a Director of the Behavioural Economics in Action Research Centre at Rotman [BEAR]. His research is in the area of behavioural science and its applications to consumer wellbeing, marketing and policy. He is the author of "The Last Mile" [University of Toronto Press] and teaches a massive open online course [MOOC] "BE101X: Behavioural Economics in Action" on EdX.

Policy Roundtable

Roundtable leaders

The four roundtable leaders will be:

1. Lucie Martin
Lucie Martin is a PhD candidate in the School of Economics at University College Dublin and a member of UCD's Geary Institute for Public Policy and Behavioural Science and Policy Group.

2. Pavin Mamidi
Pavan Mamidi is a senior policy advisor pursuing two streams of professional work and scholarship - law/regulation/policy, and behavioral science. He is currently working to help set up a Nudge Unit for India.

3. Michael Sanders
Michael Sanders is Professor of Public Policy at KCL. He previously served as the Chief Scientist at the Behavioural Insights Team, where he has led diverse teams of researchers, policy specialists and practitioners to improve outcomes forvulnerable people.

4. Patrick Forschera
Patrick Forscher is a research lead at the Busara Center for Behavioral Economics heading up an internal research agenda on culture, ethics, and methods. He previously worked as a funding lead at the Psychological Science Accelerator.

 

Discussion Sessions

Speakers

The discussion sessions will feature ten minute presentations with discussion and Q&A time.

1. Peter John
Peter John was a Professor of Political Science and Public Policy, University College London from 2011 until 2017. Previously he held appointments at the University of Manchester, Birkbeck, University of Southampton, and University of Keele. He has a DPhil from the University of Oxford and his first main job was as a Research Fellow at the Policy Studies Institute. He became head of the School of Politics and Economics in July 2020.

2. Julia Blasch
Julia Blasch is an economist specialized in behavioral environmental economics working as a Professor of Environmental and Sustainable Economics at Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt and as Research Associate at the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU).

3. Adam Oliver
Adam Oliver teaches behavioural economics and behavioural public policy, and has published widely in these areas, and indeed also in the areas of health economics and health policy. He is the founder of the Health Equity Network, the European Health Policy Group, the Behavioural Public Policy Network and the London Health Economics Group.

4. Ganga Shreedhar
Ganga Shreedhar is an Assistant Professor in Behavioural Science at LSE and co-director of the MSc in Behavioural Science programme. She is an Affiliate of the Department of Geography and Environment, an Associate at the Grantham Research Institute of Climate Change and the Environment and the Inclusion Initiative, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

5. Sander van der Linden
Sander van der Linden is Professor of Social Psychology in Society in the Department of Psychology at the University of Cambridge and Director of the Cambridge Social Decision-Making Lab. Before coming to Cambridge, he held posts at Princeton and Yale University. His research interests center around the psychology of human judgment, communication, and decision-making.

6. Ulrike Hahni
Ulrike Hahn is a professor at the Department of Psychological Sciences at Birkbeck College, University of London, where she also serves as director of the Centre for Cognition, Computation and Modelling. Her research interests are categorization, similarity, language and language acquisition,and, first and foremost, questions of human rationality.

7. Matteo M. Galizzi
Matteo M Galizzi is Associate Professor of Behavioural Science and Co-Director of the Executive MSc in Behavioural Science at the LSE Department of Psychological and Behavioural Science, and Co-Director of the LSE Behavioural Lab.

8. Leonhard Lades
Leonhard Lades is an Assistant Professor in Environmental Policy in the School of Architecture, Planning and Environmental Policy. He is also leading the Behavioural Science & Policy Group at the UCD Geary Institute and is the Treasurer of the International Association for Researchin Economic Psychology (IAREP).

9. Lucia Reisch
Prof Lucia Reisch is a behavioural economist and social scientist by training and the inaugural El-Erian Professor of Behavioural Economics and Policy at Cambridge Judge Business School. Her main research focus is on behavioural economics, behavioural public policy, sustainable consumption (in particular, energy, food and health, active mobility and fashion), intercultural consumer behaviour, consumers and digitization, as well as consumer policy.

10. Hendrik Bruns
Hendrik Bruns is Policy Analyst at the European Commission Joint Research Centre. He was a doctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute investigating the impact of behavioral interventions, i.e. nudges,on voluntary individual contributions to public goods, such as climate protection. He received his PhD in sociology from the University of Hamburg in 2018.

11. Kate Laffan
Dr. Kate Laffan is an Assistant Professor in Behavioural Science. She has a BComm International from University College Dublin and the University of Salamanca and an MSc and PhD in Social Policy from the London School of Economics. Her PhD titled ‘Issues relating to Wellbeing, Behaviour and the Environment’ was funded by the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment.

12. Patrik Michaelsen
Patrik Michaelsen is a Researcher at the University of Gothenburg. His interests center around the psychology of decision making, behavior change and nudging. In particular, he has researched how people experience and evaluate behavior change interventions, and topics relating the ethics of influence.
