Our history

Exploring political science at the LSE since 1895

In autumn 2019, with the 125th anniversary of the London School of Economics approaching, the Department of Government embarked on the project to publish its first ever history. Despite the challenges posed by a global pandemic, and the biggest disruption to the department since the Second World War, we’re pleased to share our story with you, dating back to 1895.

'Political Science at the LSE: a history of the Department of Government, from the Webbs to COVID' explores how the department has been shaped by key events and figures to what is now home today to over 900 students and staff from over 80 countries. The book is available to download as an open-source digital publication or purchase in paperback via Ubiquity Press.
