Course information

You can find a full list of the Masters courses running in the Department of Government in 2021/22 on the LSE Calendar (available soon).

Some of our Masters courses may be capped or controlled to a limited number of students places or may not be running in a given academic year. You can find full information on capped, controlled access and suspended courses below.

Capped courses

Some of our Masters courses are capped due to limited places and/or prerequisites that are required in order to study the course. If a course is capped, you must request a place on that course, and (in some cases) provide reasons supporting your request.

Courses are capped to ensure students are able to take the core courses on their programme before students on other programmes are given the opportunity to take the course as an additional outside option.

The below Masters courses are capped for the 2020/21 academic year (this list will be updated for 2021/22 as soon as the information is confirmed). Instructions on how to apply for capped courses will be supplied to all students at induction. (updated 8 March 2021)

New, suspended and withdrawn courses

Some of the courses offered by the Government Department are not available each year. The below Masters courses are not running for the 2021/22 academic year.

If a course you had planned to take is not running in your prospective year of study, you are encouraged to consider taking a course which is similar in content in another LSE department or, where there is no similar course available, to consider taking an intercollegiate option at another University of London college.

The list of outside options for graduate students can be found on the LSE Calendar.

The list of colleges from which an intercollegiate course might be considered can be found on the University of London website. If you wish to apply for an intercollegiate option, please follow the process set out on the Taking a Course Outside LSE webpage.

Please note that all requests for taking outside or intercollegiate options would need to be approved by both the course convenor/receiving institution, your Academic Mentor and the LSE Student Service Centre.
